Embedded in this brooch are ideas surrounding the role water plays in our gardens. It is a response to the architectural forms of Spanish fountains and pools and the irrigation channels that spread out from some fountains. Inherited from the Arab desert dwellers who occupied the land centuries ago these architectural garden ornaments give evidence to the crucial role water plays in arid climate countries. Fountains as ornamental features are not only functional but also bring music and coolness into the garden, displaying the Spaniards poetic approach to water. We can learn much from Spain with respect to how we garden and approach the use of water in the garden. - Vicki Mason
