What is it with earrings?
Opening 6 May to 10 June 2016
It’s been three years since we first exclaimed ‘WHAT IS IT WITH EARRINGS?!’ The original title grew from a conversation about this wonderful form of adornment and the frustrated response to the lover of earrings with the exclamation - What is it with earrings!
This year Bilk has invited all the artists represented in our gallery along with some new artists to design a collection of earrings. The response has been astounding, our artists have responded with the generosity we so love in all of them and produced an exceptional collection that is whimsical, elegant, outrageous and beautiful examples of this ancient form of adornment.
So, what is it with earrings? As an ancient form of adornment, often worn to enhance the beauty of the wearer, you could argue they are one of the most popular and accessible forms of jewellery. From the simple sleeper stud to the elegant and opulent royal chandler drop, the diversity and creativity in design is endless.
We are exited to be exhibited the work of contemporary jewellers, including new artists to Bilk and some who have turned their hand to the creation of interesting, beautiful and wearable earrings.
